Couple unveil family-inspired Indian pastes and rubs brand

PubFood's pick of the latest product launches

A married couple who grew up in traditional Indian households have launched a range of authentic pastes and rubs.

Roy and Usha Verman have created the pastes and rubs under the brand name Dhaniya.

The five pastes featured are Classic Curry, Spiced Korma, Jalfrezi, Fish Curry and Tandoori. They each come in 120g jars.

There are also five rubs – Bombay Potato, Tikka, Spiced Pomegranate, Fish and Lamb. These are dry and can be used as a marinade to intensify a dish.

Jar sizes range between 26g to 44g.

The products are made in small batches with no additives or flavourings. They are all gluten free and suitable for vegetarians.

Costly alternative

The spices and all other ingredients to make both products have been ground and blended – a process the Vermans believed would be “otherwise be very costly to produce, if buying the individual ingredients”.

All that is needed to be added are fresh vegetables, meat or fish and a few store cupboard essentials, they claimed.

While appreciating that products are likely to be most used in curries, the Vermans want to encourage Indian flavours into more mainstream dishes.

To help customers achieve this, they have created a list of quirky recipes that add an Indian twist to dishes. These include the spiced korma carbonara, tikka rub kebabs, spiced pomegranate roast chicken and lamb rub burgers.

All of the recipes are available  on the company website (www.dhaniya.co.uk).Usha Verman also has a blog with further suggestions.

The name Dhaniya means 'coriander leaf' in Hindi.
