The pub — which the company bought about 10 years ago — was previously run under tenancy, but Thatchers is now looking to appoint a manager and head chef and expand its offering.
Extensive building work is currently under way, with the plan to completely refurbish the interior of the pub, create a separate function room, guest accommodation and garden area. It is scheduled to reopen in spring next year.
Thatchers managing director Martin Thatcher said the project would cost “well over £1m”.
“I believe this is about doing something good for the village rather than just running a pub for the sake of it. We try and do a lot with local people and work hard wherever possible to generate a sense of local community.
“I see the Railway becoming a hub for local people and being our connection with the village.”
Thatcher said there were no plans to build a pub estate and he was “happy with one”.
The company is also setting up a charitable trust to formalise its fundraising activities.
