Pub takes ‘Best British Roast Dinner’ title 2014

The Truscott Arms in London’s Maida Vale has taken the title of ‘Best British Roast Dinner 2014’.

The pub best off competition from 300 other entrants to win the competition organised by Unilever Food Solutions’ brand Knorr, who also organise British Roast Dinner Week which ran last week.

Chris Brown, channel category manager, Unilever Food Solutions, said: "The standard of entries was exceptionally high this year, but it’s fair to say the Truscott Arms gave the rest of the competition a bit of a roasting. The food was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented, and there were some lovely creative flourishes, including offering smoked and braised lamb and pulled pork and loin.

"And as for the gravy – which more than 60% of consumers say is vital for the perfect roast - it was packed full of flavour, with different gravies and sauces for each of the meats on offer."

The Truscott Arms, which is run by licensee Andrew Fishwick, has just been named as a newcomer in the 2015 Michelin guide and been awarded a new entry in the 2015 Good Food Guide. The site opened in April 2013.

Roasts are served from 12 noon to 9.30pm on Sundays and the team serve an average 350 roasts per week.

The menu includes a 35-day aged beef rump cap, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes & onion gravy (£18); free-range English rare breed pork (pulled pork and loin), roast potatoes & mustard sauce (£18) and smoked lamb shoulder & braised leg with garlic & rosemary, roast potatoes & lamb sauce (£18). All roasts are served with honey roast root vegetables and seasonal greens.

Fishwick said:  “We are beyond thrilled to have been awarded this title. Good food is at the heart of what we offer here at the Truscott Arms and we think that the Sunday roast is the most important meal of the week."

The pub hosts regular events including pub quizzes, film screenings and wine clubs. The site also holds the highest accolade of the Sustainable Restaurant Association - the Three Star Sustainability Champion.
