WKD sponsors Plebs
From modern Essex to Ancient Rome, alcopop WKD has ramped up its marketing with a second TV sponsorship deal, this time for ITV2’s Plebs.

Earlier this year brand-owner SHS Drinks signed a three-year deal to sponsor reality TV show The Only Way is Essex (TOWIE).

“The Plebs broadcast sponsorship is another example of the increased level of marketing investment in WKD, Britain’s number one RTD,” said marketing director Debs Carter.

“WKD is all about having good times with friends so Plebs is a great fit with the brand.  We’re really pleased to have linked up with such an innovative and funny programme and we’re confident that its humour will really appeal to WKD consumers.”

The show is set in Ancient Rome and follows three young men from the suburbs as they try to make it in the big city.

It was one of ITV2’s most successful comedies last year, pulling in a peak audience of 1.3m viewers and it performed particularly well with 18 to 30-year old men, a key market for WKD.

The sponsorship will include idents featuring amusing exchanges between Roman statues, in keeping with WKD’s brand of irreverent humour.

“In one, a stone sculpture bemoans the fact that his selfies always look so similar and in a second ident one statue compliments another on a new hair-style,” explained Carter.
