The brand confirmed that work is due to begin on the new Speyside-based facility in October, after Moray Council granted planning permission for the project on Tuesday (5 August). It is scheduled to open to the public in Spring 2017.
The Macallan said the new distillery will provide additional capacity to meet the growing demand from existing and new international markets.
It added that it has appointed Robertson as the preferred contractor for the centre and Forsyths of Rothes as supplier of the distillation equipment.
'Delighted'
Edrington group operations director Graham Hutcheon said: “We are delighted with the decision taken by Moray Council planning committee.
“We have assembled a first class team, including internationally renowned architects Rogers, Stirk, Harbour and Partners, and are confident that Robertson will complement the existing team and our aspirations for this project."
