Punch Taverns has pledged its support for the nationwide VAT Tax Equality Day on the 24 September.

The proposed Tax Equality Day, staged by the Jacques Borel VAT club, aims to reduce the level of VAT in the hospitality sector from 20% to 5%. Punch Taverns has been a member of the club since 2012.

Punch Taverns' Caroline Jackson said: “We wanted to get involved and support the VAT Tax Equality Day as it is an important initiative within the industry.”

Over 300 Punch pubs took part in the event last year. This year, Punch will be providing any of its registered pubs with a free marketing kit to highlight to customers the benefits of a VAT reduction.

Jacques Borel said: “VAT Tax Equality Day will be the perfect way for its licensees to reinforce the message to pub goers that lower VAT in the hospitality industry will deliver lower prices and create hundreds of thousands of jobs in the sector.

“It is time to level the tax playing field between pubs and supermarkets and to highlight the disparity that currently exists, which put immense pressure on licensees and pub companies.”
