A licensee is aiming to boost food profits in his pub by capitalising on Luis Suarez’s recent biting incident.

Paul Egerton from the Jolly Sailor in St Albans, Hertfordshire, has installed a life size cardboard cut-out of the Liverpool and Uruguayan striker with a sign attached asking customers to ‘come in for a bite (to eat).’

Suarez recently made the headlines again for biting Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini during a World Cup match, which subsequently earned him a four month ban.

Speaking about the cut-out, Egerton said trade in the pub had picked up since it was placed outside.

“It is attracting attention and we are getting a lot of interest. There have been a lot of people taking photos outside and then coming into the pub. It’s also attracting a lot of attention on the internet.”

Party

Egerton, who is a Liverpool fan himself, said this has not been the first time the Luis Suarez cut out has been used.

“Someone had a Liverpool themed party at the pub and we had a Suarez and a Steven Gerrard life size cardboard cut-out. We brought out the Suarez cut-out before, when he bit the Chelsea defender and things just fell into place when he did it again recently.”

When asked whether or not he would serve the Liverpool striker if he came into his pub, Egerton replied “Of course I would, I’m a Liverpool supporter. I’d serve him some nice Italian.”

Other pubs and businesses have joined in the Suarez conversation online, with the Florentine pub in Sheffield Tweeting “Suarez don’t bite people we have great food we can supply you with if you’re hungry,” as well as PizzaExpress, who have offered to supply Suarez with a £10 gift card for pizza.

Nandos also Tweeted Suarez saying “If you’re hungry, why not get your teeth stuck into something really tasty” and Domino’s Pizza joined in by recommending its Two for Tuesday deal to Suarez.
