Pub chef makes final of Craft Guild of Chef Graduate Awards

A pub/restaurant chef has been selected as one of ten finalists in the Craft Guild of Chefs Graduate Awards 2014.

Oliver Snowden from the General Tarleton in Ferrnesby, Knaresborough was selected from 20 semi-finalists after competing in a series of culinary challenges at Sheffield College and the University of West London on 11 June.

A final exam will be held on 28 August at University College Birmingham, with the winners announced at an awards ceremony on 5 September at the Landmark Hotel in Marylebone, London.

Craft Guild vice president Steve Munkley said: “The judges were really impressed with all of the semi-finalists, the standard was so high and this is shown by the fact we have 10 finalists.

“However to be crowned a graduate they must now achieve a score of 85% in the final exam.”

Development Chef Award

The new product development controller at pub supplier the Authentic Food Company has been awarded Development Chef of the Year by the Craft Guild of Chefs.

The company supplies to pub companies including JD Wetherspoon, Whitbread, Greene King, Spirit Group, Punch Taverns  and JW Lees as well as a number of hotel chains.

The award was picked up by Sanjay Sighat at the Craft Guild of Chefs award ceremony which took place at London’s Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel on 4 June.

Andrew Pern, chef/owner of the Star Inn at Harome, North Yorkshire, was named Pub/Restaurant Chef of the Year.
