Bill Wolsey, managing director of Northern Ireland-based hospitality firm Beannchor, has become an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Wolsey was given his honour for services to business and the hospitality industry in Northern Ireland.

He heads the family-run Beannchor business that operates c50 venues across the province, including bars, restaurants, hotels and cafes.

Its formats include restaurant brand Little Wing Pizzeria and ‘dive bar’ concept Cuckoo. Recent openings have included chicken-led concept Yard Bird, which opened in Belfast in late 2013.

Recently the group has focused on innovation and hybrid formats. This year it opened a first site that combines Little Wing Pizzeria and its Patisserie Mimi concession in the same venue.

Howard Hastings, managing director of Hastings Hotels Group, also became an OBE for services to tourism and hospitality, while Eugene McKeever, managing director of the McKeever Hotel Group, became an MBE for services to tourism and hospitality in Northern Ireland.
