Treats on the terrace
Drake & Morgan’s (D&M) Refinery bar and restaurant near London Bridge is setting up a holiday hotspot, complete with striped deck chairs and white picket fencing. Tennis-themed tipples will include the Cream Tea Martini (£6.95) and Robinson’s Refresh (£7.50) – D&M’s take on the courtside classic, with Cachaça, blood orange and the renowned cordial. Both are available at any of Drake & Morgan’s bars and restaurants during the championships.
Hunt the strawberry
To celebrate the men’s final at Wimbledon on Sunday 6 July, Peach pub the Rose & Crown in Warwick is organising a Posh Pimm’s Party, with no booking required. Games of hide-the-strawberry will combine well with lashings of shortbread and plenty of strawberry-themed dishes. If the weather is fine, a mock tennis court will be set up at the pub’s terrace, with customers welcome to participate, and a free glass of bubbly will be on offer for those arriving in Wimbledon-style fancy dress.
Sparkling tournament
Wimbledon matches will be shown indoors and out, rain or shine, on screens available in every room and the large beer gardens of Urban Art Bar pubs the Red Lion and the Lord Clifden in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, with jugs of Pimm’s at the ready.
On 3 July the Red Lion will run a Wimbledon-themed evening in its Wines of the World series, with sparkling wines and dishes themed around native lands of tennis champions, including Williams – USA – Key lime pie (£5.95); Murray – UK – Pimm’s ice lolly (£4.95) There will also be plenty of strawberries and cream, in the form of cheesecake and Wimbledon Mess (£4.95). The champions theme will be followed up with specials throughout the tournament.
Round trip
Jetlag Sports Bar in London’s Fitzrovia has five screens plus close-up action on the cinema-style screen for the major Wimbledon matches. The Pimm’s Perfect Serve is a tray with jugs of the traditional drink, glasses and fruit, strawberries and cream (£20) with plenty of international choices including the Spanish burger, honouring Nadal. Salamanca chorizo sausage, Cajun chicken fillet and smoked chilli jelly offers the “perfect balance of heat and sweet” (£14.50). The South American favourite choripán – a sandwich with chorizo and home-made chimichurri sauce (£10.50), is designed for Del Potro fans and classic British fish and hand-cut chips is always popular (£14).
