The Diageo-owned rum brand is running its Captain’s Cannon video game in 10 London pubs.
Customers can tackle the ‘hands free’ challenge at the urinal using their aim to fire the ball from the Captains ship past a pirate goalkeeper into a digital goal.
The video game will be available at the Exhibit Diner, in Balham, The Loop, in Mayfair and the Piccadilly Institute, in Piccadilly Circus, among others.
Ways to connect
Samantha Newby, marketing manager for Captain Morgan Western Europe at Diageo, said “Captain Morgan is always looking for ingenious and fun ways to connect and recruit our crew.
“It is increasingly difficult in bars to standout, the Captive Media washroom game offers an innovative way to interact with our adult audience in a fun and engaging way, making the brand top of mind when they return back in to the bar, and gives them social currency to challenge their mates to beat their score.”
Captive Media currently has video game machines installed in 30 London venues, and chief executive Gordon MacSween said he was hopeful of reaching 100 installations by the end of the year.
He explained: “The console really works for busy high street venues. We’ve got a lot of ideas up our sleeves for other similar games, and we plan to announce a tie-up with another spirit brand in the autumn.”
Novus Leisure
Steve Hill, operations director at Novus Leisure, said: “We installed Captive Media at our Jewel Bar last year, so we know how popular the screens are with staff and visitors. In March, we agreed with the company to install them at five other Novus venues, and have now started using them for our in-house promotions.
“We'll take them into Tiger Tiger next, where the concept is obviously a great fit.”
Adnams chief executive Andy Wood added: “Captive Media is one of those concepts that appeals more and more. Since we installed the screens in our London pub the Bridge House, they have proved incredibly popular with our male customers. We’re certain that people come for a drink just so that they can have a pee - it’s surprising how competitive some of them can get!"
