Tanner brothers acquire Tunbridge Wells pub

Celebrity chefs Chris and James Tanner have taken up the running of the newly opened Kentish Hare in Tunbridge Wells.

Formerly the Hare and Hounds, the Enterprise Inns pub was bought by Lady Maureen Mills and her husband Sir Keith Mills after it was put up for sale by the company last year.

The Kentish Hare underwent a major refurbishment including the installation of a new restaurant and open plan kitchen, two new bars and an outdoor terrace with landscape garden.

The 60 cover restaurant will feature a menu of traditional pub classics as well as nibbles and smaller dishes including sticky mini chorizo, maple glazed pears, chicory and Kentish blue cheese and fillet steak medallions with champ potato, brandy and cream.

Ribeye, fillet and chateaubriand steaks will be cooked on a Komado Joe Grill and come with a choice of sides and sauces while a set menu offering two courses for £18.00 and three for £22.00 is available throughout the week.

Chris and James Tanner will be running the venue on a day to day basis and have installed Sam Spratt, formerly of the Michelin bib-gourmand recognised Age and Sons in Ramsgate, Kent, as head chef.

The brothers initially opened Tanners in Plymouth, Devon, in 1999 before going on to launch the Barbican Kitchen in 2006 at the Plymouth Gin Distillery.

They also own farm shop and butchery Quayside Fresh and street food hut Str. East in Looe, Cornwall, and have plans to open fish and chip shop the Catch later this summer.
