Hawthorn Leisure buys 88 R&L pubs

Hawthorn Leisure, the group set up with the acquisition of 275 pubs from Greene King, has announced the acquisition of 88 tenanted and leased pubs from R&L, the pub portfolio formerly part of property tycoon Robert Tchenguiz’s property empire in a deal believed to be worth c£30m.

It is thought that G1 Group had previously run a rule over the package, with the vast majority based in Scotland.

Hawthorn Leisure has now acquired a total of 363 tenanted and leased pubs, which are 98% freehold, including 201 in the south east, Midlands, east and west of England, 131 in Scotland, and 31 in other parts of the UK. The price of the deal has not been disclosed.
