Spirit Pub Company has announced that it is to streamline its management structure by combining its managed operations and commercial functions, in a move that will see current commercial director Clive Briscoe leaving the business at the end of May.

Chief operating officer Alan Morgan will now take responsibility for the new combined functions.

Nick Young, operations director for Fayre & Square and Flaming Grill, has been appointed as operations director for the managed division and will continue to report directly to Morgan.

Spirit said Young’s role “will provide additional focus on delivery of the operations strategy; with accountability for driving operational excellence and a great guest experience as well as growing profit”.

“Spirit will be reviewing the market and considering options to replace Nick’s previous role,” the company said.

Chris Welham, who heads the leased division, will become accountable for all aspects of property.

Accountability

Mike Tye, chief executive, said: “Over the last few years, the transformation of the managed business has been focussed heavily on both the creation and development of our successful brand portfolio and much improved operational excellence.

“We now see considerable upside in combining managed operations and the commercial function under one leader. This change gives clear and sole accountability for sales, volume and margin and means we have the insights from, and the interests of, our guests and our teams in one place.

“I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank Clive for his significant contribution during his four years with the business and wish him every success in his future career.”

Tye added: “We believe these changes are in the best long-term interests of the company and will enable the successful delivery of our future strategy.”
