On a Twitter account that claims to be his offical account the England football legend, who has had a well-documented history of alcohol-related problems, asked if anyone was interested in helping him start a franchise with the rights to use his name.
Gascoigne added that interested parties should get in touch with his sister Lindsay, to discuss the proposal.
The tweet, dated 15 May, said: “Is anyone interested in opening a GAZZA BAR as I own the rights to both PAUL GASCOIGNE AND GAZZA.”
Alcohol ban
The proposal comes after Gascoigne the first 12 weeks of the year in rehab. He emerged from the Cotton Wood clinic in Arizona, where he was said to be under a strict alcohol ban, at the beginning of April.
The news was met with a pessimistic response from followers of the account. Former England rugby international Brian Moore tweeted: “Paul Gascoigne has asked if anyone would like to help him open a chain of bars called Gazza's; rehab obviously isn't going well.”
Meanwhile, PR firm MHW tweeted: “Oh dear - anyone spot a problem with this!?”
