The brainchild of brothers Ollie and Fin Gammell, Nutsu wasabi nuts have quickly a gained a foothold in the market and are now available in 400 outlets throughout the UK.
Two years in development, Gammell said the product’s USP is that they are made from real wasabi, as opposed to horseradish – the main ingredient used in a number of other wasabi nuts.
His company, UK Bar Snacks, took two years to develop the product and Gammell said initial feedback from bar managers had been “amazing”.
He explained: “We were bored of the usual crisps and nuts, and other wasabi peanuts just didn’t cut the mustard, so we set out on an epic journey to create the ultimate wasabi peanut, and after two years we cracked it.”
Gammell added: “The delicious, sweet and salty flavour and big wasabi kick of the nuts are a great accompaniment to beer, and the thin coating isn't too filling so customers can keep drinking.”
With a one-year shelf life, the nuts are available in nitrogen-filled foil 40g packets of 30 for £15.
For new customers, a 12-packet display strip is available for £5. Recommended retail price is £1.20, offering a GP of 50%.
Around 10% of all profits made by UK Bar Snacks go to charity.
