St Austell launches Proper Cool IPA
St Austell Brewery has added a new permanent draught beer to its range, a chilled American-style IPA brewed in partnership with Cornwall’s Eden Project.

Inspired by the brewery’s Proper Job beer, the new beer – Proper Cool IPA – is a 5.5% ABV ale brewed with Maris Otter barley and three American hops: Cascade, Chinook and Willamette.

Samples of the hops are to be grown at the Eden Project site, which will also be serving the beer in its Mediterranean biome.

It will be served in branded stemmed schooner glasses (two-thirds of a pint).

“There is an increasing interest, particularly among drinkers in their 20’s and 30’s for American inspired chilled IPAs on draught,” explained marketing and communications director Jeremy Mitchell.

“With the summer just around the corner and building on the huge popularity of our Proper Job cask and bottled ales, it’s the perfect time to launch Proper Cool IPA, which will be served chilled to perfection.”

Last month the company opened its first coffee shop, under its Brewer & Bean brand in Newquay.

The brewery added Cornish lager Korev to its portfolio back in 2010.
