Leffe launch competition to find Britain’s best bar snacks

Michelin-starred chef Kevin Love has teamed up with Belgian beer brand Leffe in a competition to find the best bar snacks.

As part of the Leffe Gastro Bite Awards, licensees who believe they have the best bar snacks in the UK are being encouraged to enter their recipes.

The competition will be judged by Kevin Love, who is head chef at Heston Blumenthal's pub the Hinds Head, in Bray, Berkshire.  He will choose the winners from a shortlist of eight who will be judged on creativity, originality, taste and appearance.

In order to give establishments some inspiration, Love has created five of his very own bar snacks including beer nuts, Kentish rarebit and Scotch quail’s egg, all of which complement Leffe.

Love said: "The bar snack has undergone a huge revolution in recent years. Gone are the days of picking up a packet of pork scratchings – today’s customer is much more discerning. At the Hinds Head, we treat our bar snacks just as seriously as dishes on the main menu."

Emily Kraftman, senior brand manager for Leffe at AB InBev UK, added, "Leffe is an authentic Belgian Abbey beer which compliments a wide range of snacks. That’s why we’re on a quest to discover the most premium bar snacks to accompany it. We’re looking forward to seeing some great recipes and working with Kevin to decide which ones make the final shortlist."

The winners will be awarded a plaque and their winning recipes will be showcased at a pop up event hosted by Leffe and Kevin Love in June.
