Cornish brewer St Austell has opened the first of its Brewer & Bean outlets at the Great Western Hotel in Newquay.

The brewery is aiming to challenge the dominance of high street coffee chains by opening cafes within its pubs and bars.

Jeremy Mitchell, St Austell Brewery’s Marketing Director said: “The astonishing growth in the coffee sector has meant that customers are demanding a quality product and an extensive selection, but they increasingly want to enjoy their coffee in a pleasant location with a greater selection of hot and cold food. Our estate of pubs, hotels and inns across the South West are in a perfect position to cater for this demand.”

Roger Ryman, Head Brewer at St Austell Brewery said: “It is great to see the first outlet open. The beans have such a strong, rich flavour, which is something that I am particularly interested in. I’m already thinking about a new brew inspired by Brewer & Bean.”

The company says it plans further dedicated Brewer & Bean outlets in several locations. A full menu of Brewer & Bean coffees is available to either drink in or take away at St Austell Brewery pubs across the South West.
