Over the next couple of weeks five- a-side teams from across the nation will be able to nominate themselves for the Strongbow Challenge at selected Power League venues across the UK and via the cider’s Facebook page.
The winning team will be helped in their challenge by footballing experts, including ex-pro Chris Kamara, acting as manager; a Brazilian football head coach, and former professional footballer turned TOWIE reality TV star, Mark Wright who (assistant manager), who will be on hand to, “develop team spirit and manage the inevitable off the pitch banter.”
Kamara said: “The Brazilian Ladies team will be, without doubt, the toughest opponents these men have ever faced. They’ll be fast, intricate and organized- with endless footballing flair.
“The Strongbow Rio challenge is tough, but it’s not insurmountable. We’re going to need a team prepared to dig deeper than ever to earn a win in Rio. The job of finding that team starts today.”
The initiative will be boosted by a tie-up with Google and a partnership with Sky to promote the campaign. It will also be highlighted on Pub TV, and on posters in pub loos across the nation.
This is the second Strongbow Challenge, the first saw cricket fan Pete Moxom face England’s Jimmy Anderson for an over in front of 200 people. He hit the sixth and final ball to “earn it” – a pint of Strongbow. You can see the video here.
