The pub has claimed the title of Best Independent Pub/Restaurant Chips at the Choice Chip Awards 2014, run by the Potato Council.
As voted for by customers and held alongside National Chip Week (17 to 23 February), saw more than 900 pubs, restaurants and chip shops competing to be named chip champion. A record-breaking 62,983 votes were cast to decide the winner.
Defending champion
"Last year was the first time we got involved with Chip Week, so to have loyal customers rally and vote for us as serving the best chips in the country again is incredible – it’s a great achievement," said the Crown’s manager Kevin Wallman.
Stu Baker, Chip Week campaign manager for Potato Council, said: "We’ve had a fantastic response from independent pubs and restaurants keen to get involved in this year’s Chip Week and make the most of the opportunity to drive sales. From running promotions to raising money for charity, foodservice outlets across the country are pulling out all the stops to champion the mighty chip."
Resounding success
"This year’s Choice Chip Awards has been a resounding success; more than 62,000 votes were placed which is the highest number ever," continued Baker.
"That just goes to show that customers are keen to support their local pub, restaurant or chip shop and give them the recognition they deserve for serving a perfect portion of freshly cooked chips.
"With Chip Week 2014 officially underway, now’s the time to shout about your tasty chip offerings and any promotions and events you have planned."
