Budweiser Budvar to launch a cherry lager

Czech brewery Budweiser Budvar is launching a cherry version of its lager in the UK, following a successful trial.

The 4% ABV beer sold out within two days of its debut at the Westbridge Draft House in London’s Battersea this month.

“The beer delighted the metropolitan taste buds beyond all our expectations,” said Budvar UK’s  Ian Moss.

“It clearly indicates that we have a winner on our hands, particularly as Draft House customers tend to be more knowledgeable than most about their beer.”

The company claims it is the first traditional Czech fruit beer to be available in the UK.

It is made with Budvar Dark, the unsweetened juice of Bohemian cherries and has a distinctive subtle jet black colour with “dark red high-lights reminiscent of the famous Czech garnet stones.”

It is being rolled out in draught across the country between now and Easter.

Last month the brewery launched a no-alcohol version of its lager in the UK and a heftier 7.5% ABV one. It also now has its "sessionable" beer, the 3.8% ABV Pardál, in the UK.
