A Worcestershire licensee said she hopes global media coverage of her idea to have tents in her pub garden for customers will put her business and town on the map.

Liz Jennings’ idea to allow people to stay over in tents at the Drum & Monkey in Upton-upon-Severn, during the Christmas and New Year period, has been picked up by media as far away as Germany and Russia.

She introduced the tents to keep her customers safe as she did not want them drinking and driving over the festive period.

In her most recent appearance on a national Russian TV channel, her interview was broadcast to more than 70 million people. “This has been great publicity for the pub and the community. Hopefully it will put Upton-upon-Severn on the map.

Positive

“This place is famous for flooding, so it’s good to have something positive. Maybe it will bring more tourists to the town.

“I’m not sure if I will do it again next year, maybe I will build some igloos.”
