The 4.2% ABV ale, Charge, has been brewed with Marston’s, which the Publican’s Morning Advertiser revealed is also releasing a beer made in partnership with Status Quo and its Wychwood Brewery this week.
Elbow’s first beer, Build a Rocket Boys! was brewed with Robinsons.
The name Charge is taken from one of the tracks on the band’s soon-to-be released album The Take Off and Landing of Everything, due to be launched on 10 March.
“We are excited by the collaboration with Elbow, they have a genuine passion for beer and we see it as a great way of reaching a different audience for our beers and the category as a whole,” said brand manager Tom Lenihan.
The beer is described as a classic, easy drinking Pale Ale made from a blend of three malts. In a nod to American steam beers, the beer is fermented at a higher temperature than the norm to release a “fruitier aroma and sweeter finish.”
It will be supported with activity on social media and a series of Pub Playback events in February and March, where fans can enjoy a preview of the new album and a pint of Charge together.
Elbow’s lead singer Guy Garvey said: “With the help of the good people at Marston’s we’ve created a craft beer with a spicy American feel that still retains the class of a traditional British real ale. It’s the perfect accompaniment to the album.”
The beer follows a raft of brewery and band tie-ups in recent years, including the hugely successful Trooper made by Iron Maiden and Robinsons and Gladness a brew from Madness and the Growler brewery.
