Fuller's Great Sausage Roll Off back for second year tonight

Fuller’s Great Sausage Roll Off is back for the second time at the Red Lion in Barnes, Surrey.

Tonight’s (28 January) event will see the finalist chefs competing to win the title of the ultimate sausage roll.

The competition boasts MasterChef winners among the competitors and judges with returning head judge Charles Capion, celebrity MasterChef winner Lisa Faulkner, National Chef of the Year Hayden Grves and Danny Kingston, who writes the Food Urchin blog.

Finalists

Tim Anderson, 2011 MasterChef winner, who now runs Japanese restaurant NanBan, will be among the contestants. Other confirmed entrants include the Wykenham Arms in Winchester, Hampshire; the Bull in Highgate, North London; Paul Merrett’s the Victoria in East Sheen, south London; and Claude and Cedric Bosi’s the Malt House in Fulham, south-west London.

General manager Angus McKean said: "Everyone loves a sausage roll – and last year’s selection was a combination of delicious, interesting and, quite frankly, just odd. I’m hoping for more of the same this year.

"I’m very proud of our food in the Red Lion and it’s an inspiring experience to allow other chefs on to my turf to fight it out for Britain’s most superb sausage roll."

Last year’s entries included ingredients such as truffles, lobster and even mackerel.

Beer and food writer Melissa Cole will compere the event, which begins at 7pm, and customers are invited to turn up for some sausage roll samples - no tickets required.
