Steve Mallon has taken office as President of the Scottish Beer and Pub Association (SBPA).

Mallon, the managing director of Maclay Group and Maclay Inns, has served as the SBPA’s vice president since March 2012.  He took office at the turn of the year following the departure of Stephen Crawley as managing director of the Caledonian Brewing Company.

Challenging

Mallon said: “2014 will be a challenging time for Scotland’s beer and pub industry and provides the sector with a unique opportunity to market itself to a global audience alongside the Commonwealth Games, and the Ryder Cup as part of Scotland’s Year of Homecoming.

"I hope to build on the legacy that has been left to the Association by my predecessor Stephen Crawley and to more effectively engage with Scotland’s licensed and hospitality sectors over the next two years in meeting the challenges facing the industry.”

Stephen Crawley legacy

SBPA’s chief executive, Patrick Browne said:  “The outgoing president Stephen Crawley has presided over the adoption of a new strategy for the Association which will take us to 2016 and which reflected Stephen’s genuine passion for beer as part of Scotland’s food and drink experience and as part of Scotland’s tourism industry.  That has provided SBPA with a strong footing to move forward on into 2014 and beyond.”
