CAMRA reveals Pub Design Award winners

Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has unveiled the winners of the Pub Design Awards 2013, with pubs as diverse as a bar made from shipping containers and a railway platform conversion achieving accolades.

The winners include the York Tap on York train station, converted from an old model railway museum, for Conversion to Pub Use; the Albion Ale House in Conwy, north Wales for English Heritage Conservation award and joint-winner of Joe Goodwin Awards for Best Street Corner Local, along with the Cat’s back in Putney, south-west London.

The Hall & Woodhouse in Portishead, Somerset, won the Newbuild Award – the first time the award has been presented since 2006 - for its modern marina bar constructed from recycled shipping containers. Meanwhile, the White Swan in Shawell, Leicestershire, won the Refurbishment award.

CAMRA national director Julian Hough said: “The Pub Design Awards celebrate British pubs with truly memorable designs. Whether it is a building that has been converted to a pub, a conservation project on a historical structure or a brand new build with cutting edge design aesthetics, CAMRA congratulates the pub owners, architects, and designers who have contributed to these pubs being named the best in the UK.”
