Loungers named operator of the year

Loungers was named operator of the year at the R200 Awards last night at Merchants Tavern in London’s Shoreditch, hosted by the Publican’s Morning Advertiser’s sister title Restaurant magazine.

Judges said that 2013 had been another impressive year for this rapidly expanding chain of informal, neighbourhood food-led Lounge bars and Cosy Clubs that have become “masters of the off-pitch site”.

Oakman Inns, the Peter Borg-Neal-led company was named pub company of the year, with its well-appointed pubs becoming successful all-day dining - and not just drinking – destinations.

Other winners on the night included Bill’s for most effective design - Bill’s, Wahaca for best drinks offer and Honest Burgers was named best value restaurant operator.

Innovation

The innovation of the year award went to the Trinity Kitchen Project by Land Securities for its mix of permanent and temporary restaurant that offer a “mould-breaking approach that is set to become a blueprint for a new style of shopping food court”.

Carluccio’s collected the sustainable national restaurant operator award. Its impressive recycling plans that have seen considerably less waste go to landfill and close consultation with the Marine our Conservation Society are just a few reasons why Carluccio’s collected the award.

The best family operator award went to Pizza Express, while Soho House’s Chicken Shop was named best new scaleable concept.
