Speaking at the recent Cider Trends Summit in Bristol, Henry Chevallier Guild, partner at Aspall Cyder, said: "The cider market is going through a huge boom at present and it is hanging on the coat tails of the craft-beer scene, which has been huge over the past 15 years.
"Cider is still mainly European. Three-quarters of all cider that is consumed in the world is drunk in Europe, predominantly in the UK and Ireland, and nobody else really gets into double digits.
"Latin America has 7%, Australasia has 6%, but it’s really just us — and if you compare that to beer it is a significant difference globally," he said.
"The US is interesting. I think the figures underestimate what is going to happen in the US in the next three to four years. There’s a growing understanding in America. They have really embraced it.
"Over the past six to eight months I’ve noticed that they have begun categorising their market very clearly."
