Chestnut Inns opens first pub

Chestnut Inns has opened its first pub in Moulton, Suffolk, with plans for further sites in the region.

The Packhorse Inn near Newmarket has been reopened as a traditional pub focusing on community, dining and accommodation. Moulton resident and former banker and corporate financier Philip Turner established Chestnut Inns to buy the freehold with additional funding under an Enterprise Investment Scheme. investors include experienced operator David Minchin, husband of BBC News presenter Louise Minchin.

Chris and Hayley Lee are managing the pub, having moved from the Bildeston Crown, which gained three AA rosettes among other accolades while they were there.

The four-bedroom pub will focus on providing a convivial family-friendly atmosphere while serving locally sourced, seasonal food and a range of beers.

Teas and coffees will be available all day with Sunday lunches, such as ribs of beefs and whole roast chickens to be carved at the table, becoming a speciality. The rest of the menu will feature traditional dishes with a twist on modern flavours.
