How to pour a beer using your just your mind

In the same week it was announced that the new iPhone offers “Touch ID,” which replaces the need for PINs with fingertip recognition, I poured a pint of beer using the power of thought.

I’ve not made this up.

A prototype developed by tech company Redweb, using a Mind Wave Input Set, an iPad, a circuit board and a barrel of homebrew, made it possible.

The set measures the electromagnetic waves generated by the brain, they activate an app, which triggers a circuit board that opens the valve to the beer tap.

And it was a lot of fun.

Imagine a pub quiz where you have to answer questions and pour pints of beer at the same time? Or the scope for the right brand – Brains brewery, where are you?!

The pub trade is slow to take to developments like this - I’ve yet to use contactless pay card for a glass of wine, even though I do so almost daily for a coffee, for example.

There are already some great developments out there that I rarely see, such as Pour Your Own Pint tables or iPad menus.

Harnessing technology doesn’t even have to require any investment.  Drake & Morgan venues already accept pre-ordering for drinks via email, so that the round is waiting for punters when they get to there.

Technology isn’t about fundamentally changing pubs. It’s about updating the experience for a generation that can access the world through their fingertips.
