GBBF: Alfie Moon and Bet Lynch named UK’s top soap landlords

EastEnders landlord Alfie Moon and Coronation Street landlady Bet Lynch were honoured at the Great British Beer Festival (GBBF) in a poll commissioned by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

More than 1,000 members of the public voted for their favourite TV landlord or landlady from a choice of 16 possible options.

Alfie Moon (played by Shane Richie) won in a landslide victory in the landlord category, receiving nearly a quarter of the votes — almost twice as many as any of the other candidates.

Meanwhile, things were much closer for the ladies, with EastEnders’ Peggy Mitchell (played by Barbara Windsor) receiving 20% of the votes — just behind Bet Lynch (played by Julie Goodyear).

CAMRA will offer a free pint of beer to anybody dressed up as Moon or Lynch at the GBBF on Thursday 15 August and there will be a secret prize for the best costume.
