Duke of Cambridge wins ethical dining award

The Duke of Cambridge in Islington, north London has been awarded the title of greenest pub in London by Jellied Eel magazine, the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) and the Ethical Eating catering network.

The title was given for the pub’s drinks and food offer, environmental practices and lnks with the local community with the winner chosen through a mixture of public votes and a final decision by a panel of judges.

The Duke of Cambridge has championed sustainable food and drink for 15 years and has worked with schools to teach children about healthy cooking. it also supports charities and encourages staff to volunteer.

"We are entirely organic, everything we buy is sustainable and seasonal," said pub owner Geetie Singh. "Customers come because they share our values and that’s really heartening."

CAMRA judge Claire Cain said: "There were some really good contenders, but the Duke of Cambridge really stood out. These days pubs are really struggling businesses and have to do so much more to up their game and reflect the change in our culture. At CAMRA we really want to see pubs engaging with their communities more, and the Duke is absolutely committed to doing that."

Runners up included the Three Stags in Kenningtonand the Railway in Streatham, both south London.
