A package of pubs from the former Botanic Inns estate, which was placed into administration earlier this month, has been acquired by a new venture set up by ex-Botanic owner Stephen Magorrian called the Horatio Group.

The new company has acquired the Botanic Inn, Madison’s Hotel, the King’s Head, the Northern Whig, the Elms and the Fly, all in Belfast, saving c.300 jobs.

The seven Botanic businesses from sister firm Kurkova, which are still being run by the administrators, are the Apartment, the Kitchen Bar, McHugh’s, the Parador, Molly Browns and Ryans Bar, all in Belfast; and Denvirs in Downpatrick, Northern Ireland.

John Hansen and Stuart Irwin, joint administrators at KPMG, said they were confident of achieving a successful sale of the seven remaining venues in due course and also securing the continued employment of the remaining 300-plus staff.

KPMG was appointed joint administrators to the Belfast-based Botanic Inns and sister firm Kurkova this month.
