An ale made by a newly-formed south London brewer has been picked to guest in a famous Parliament bar.

Golden Ale, from Clarence & Fredericks, is currently on tap at the Strangers’ Bar at the House of Commons.

The 3.8% ABV ale, said to have a citrus hop aroma and flavour, was produced at Clarence & Fredericks’ 10-barrel plant in Croydon, where head brewer Duncan Woodhead and partner Victoria Barlow have been brewing since October 2012.

Barlow said guesting in the Strangers’ Bar is unique opportunity to promote the growing real ale business – and to talk to decision-makers such as the All Party Parliamentary Beer Group about the importance of supporting small breweries.

“Although Clarence & Fredericks has been open just seven months, our brewery marks the culmination of Duncan’s long-standing passion for real ale and local pubs,” she explained.

“We're thrilled to have our Golden Ale guest in the Strangers’ Bar in Parliament, and give our thanks to Croydon North MP Steve Reed, his team, and bar manager Will Conway for making it happen.”

Clarence & Fredericks is a member of the Society of Independent Brewers. Golden Ale is being showcased in the Strangers’ Bar as part of a programme of regular guest ale appearances arranged by the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group.
