The awards aim to recognise the efforts of local Pubwatch schemes throughout the UK.
Three finalists will be selected and on the awards night one of those will be announced as the overall winning scheme and the other two will receive highly commended trophies.
The awards will be presented to the winners at the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group dinner, which is being held on 10 July 2013 in London.
Last year’s, overall winner was the Northampton Pubwatch scheme, which impressed the judges with its broad range of partnership initiatives and close working relationship with the police.
Steve Baker, national pubwatch chair, said: “It doesn’t matter how big or small the scheme is we are just looking for evidence that the scheme and its members are making a difference in their pubs and wider area through their own efforts”.
Mark Baird, Diageo GB head of industry affairs and alcohol policy said: “We are delighted to be sponsoring and supporting the National Pubwatch Awards again for a second year. Northampton has set a high bar for others schemes to follow and we look forward to welcoming even more entrants this year to showcase the great work they’re doing to make our night-time economies safer and more welcoming for a great night out.
“Winning an award provides a platform to promote the work of your scheme and ensures recognition by the local community that you are promoting social responsibility.
“It will highlight your good practice and encourage others to raise their standards for the benefit of the licensed trade as a whole. And finally, there is the prestige of being rewarded for your efforts in front of key industry professionals and parliamentarians,” they said.
Entries close on 27 May, are welcomed from members of a Pubwatch, but also from anyone wishing to nominate a scheme on their behalf.
