An ale infused with Welsh whisky has won the Brains' “Ultimate Collaboration Beer Challenge.”

The Welsh brewer joined forces with a series of beer writers and bloggers last year to create a range of IPAs in its new craft brewery, which went head-to-head for the chance to be sold as a limited edition in 30 Brains pubs.

The winning beer, Boilermaker, was conceived and brewed by Tom Sandham and Ben McFarland, aka the Thinking Drinkers.

It is a 6.5% ABV IPA that came top with a judging panel who said it was a, “balanced but complex beer with an appetising bitter finish.”

Next year the brewer is challenging seven more guest brewers – of which the PMA will be one – to come up with the ultimate continental beer.
