Jewell will become the first female to chair the WSET in its 43-year history. She has been a part of the product development team at Tesco since 2010, overseeing the of the range in conjunction with the wine buying team.
The major supermarket won the Wine Supermarket of the Year award at this year’s Independent Wine Challenge.
Jewell takes over from Bill Page. He said: “It has been a privilege for me to be part of a British success story, which has seen WSET grow to be the biggest and most highly respected global organisation in wine and spirit education and qualifications in the world, and in handing over the reins to Laura, I know that WSET will be safe hands, and that she will give 100% support to Ian Harris (chief executive) and his team as WSET continues its exponential growth.”
