Pubs pay Sky £80k after being found using domestic cards
A number of licensees have been ordered to pay significant levels of damages for using Sky domestic viewing cards in their pubs.

In six recent judgments, licensees were ordered to pay more than £80,000 in fines. These licensees were caught screening Sky programmes in the commercial areas of their premises from viewing cards that were intended for domestic use.

The licensees were each given 14 days to pay after the ruling in these civil actions.

A spokesperson for Sky said: “We are committed to protecting the interest of our legitimate subscribers. Civil actions are just one of a number of tools at our disposal against licensees who continue to televise Sky content without the correct viewing agreement.

"These penalties should deter licensees thinking of showing Sky unlawfully as well as reassure our valued customers that we are taking, and will continue to take, a number of actions to protect their interests.’’
