Great British Menu star and restaurateur Simon Rogan has taken on his local pub.

Robinsons Brewery’s the Pig & Whistle in Cartmel, Cumbria is his third hospitality business joining two-Michelin-starred L’Enclume and Rogan & Company, both in Cartmel. Rogan plans to turn the Pig & Whistle into a ‘local villager’s pub’.

“We aim to keep it simple, local and traditional,” said Rogan. “We will serve home-cooked, gutsy food with Cumbrian flair and artisan ales aiming for value for money and memorable service.

“We will continue to use and promote local suppliers and utilise some of the ingredients from our own farm here in the village.

“Having thirty years experience and two other hospitality businesses within the village means we have a good hold on things generally. We are aware of the trends, peaks and troughs that come within this industry and especially within this area.

"We also know the locals and have socialised with them at length during our time here in Cartmel. They want a presence and a personality in their pubs and this is exactly what we will give them at the Pig and Whistle.”

Rogan won the dessert course of 2012’s Great British Menu competition and achieved 10 out of 10 from The Good Food Guide for L’Enclume this year — the second to do so since 2006.
