The ad, named Paint The Town Black, features a sleepy village preparing for a celebration. The villagers come together and begin to paint everything with a distinctive black liquid, before raising a pint to Arthur Guinness, the beer's founder. It previewed exclusively on Facebook yesterday before its debut in the UK next month.
As part of the fourth annual Arthur’s Day celebrations, which take place on 27 September, Diageo also plans to get major music stars to perform in pubs and intimate venues, as well as large concerts. Confirmed so far this year are Tinie Tempah, Texas, Ellie Goulding, Example, Mika, Professor Green, Fatboy Slim and Amy Macdonald.
Guinness senior brand manager Chris Wooff said: “We wanted to create an advert that brought to life the remarkable spirit of Arthur’s Day and, in doing so, encourage people from around the world to be a part of the annual celebrations by raising a toast to the man behind our iconic pint, Arthur Guinness.”
