BBPA calls for joint anti-fraud task force
The calls come after the BBPA backed the recommendations of MPs in the beer tax fraud inquiry report, which claimed enforcement must be central to Government’s strategy to tackle beer duty fraud and not fiscal stamps.
The BBPA said a task force should be set up as soon as possible to make policies work better and build on current anti-fraud strategy.
BBPA chief executive Brigid Simmonds, said: “We invite Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs and all other stakeholders to join us in tackling the problem through a task force, set up as soon as possible so it can start delivering results.”
The BBPA has already claimed that Government plans to introduce a tax stamp for bottles and cans of beer could be illegal.
