A new Italian drink is making its way to UK pubs and bars in a move its distributors hope will create a whole new category of drinks.

Sprizzerò is made from wine, herbs and liqueurs and is made from the original recipe that dates from 1934.

It comes in a can and may be be drunk on its own, served either in the can with a straw, in a large wine glass over ice with a slice of orange or as an ingredient in long mixed drinks, such as Sprizzerò topped up with white wine or sparkling wine or added to a shot of vodka.

The brand is already big around Europe, particularly in Germany and Italy. Some 300,000 cans of the drink are sold each day in Venice alone, says the UK importer Lasko Beer UK.

“Spritzer drinks on the Continent form their very own drinks category, which we are hoping we can establish in the UK with the launch of Sprizzerò,” said Lasko director Charles Gardner. “Consumers are always looking for something new to discover and enjoy and we think this will fit the bill perfectly.”

Sprizzerò will be available from this August from wholesalers around the country. It will be backed with an extensive sampling campaign at consumer events as well as activity on social media sites.
