With the recall estimated to cost Britvic in the region of £25m, it could see a number of children left disappointed at family-led pubs where Fruit Shoot is stocked.
Pub companies are offering alternative soft drinks for children after Britvic withdrew the product due to problems with the bottle’s spill-proof cap.
Britvic said it should be able to start resupplying customers within six weeks, using an existing sport cap on the Fruit Shoot drinks.
Two of the UK’s leading managed pub chains have said they will continue to work closely with Britvic as it tries to find a permanent solution to the problem.
A spokesperson from Spirit Pub Company, which operates pubs under the Wacky Warehouse and Fayre & Square brands, said: “The situation has been dealt with efficiently and the affected products were removed from sale immediately.
“We are working closely with Britvic and monitoring the situation to get the drink range back in pubs as soon as possible. We stock a full range of soft drinks and so our guests can choose from many alternatives.”
Meanwhile, Greene King has apologised to families for any disappointment caused as a result of the product recall.
A spokesperson said: “We take the safety of our customers very seriously.
“As a precaution we took the decision to remove all Fruit Shoot stock from our pubs, restaurants and hotels with immediate effect.
“We are replacing Fruit Shoot with suitable alternatives and apologise for any disappointment the recall has caused.”
