The debacle saw Diageo having to apologise after a “serious misjudgement” on stripping BrewDog of Bar Operator of the Year 2012 at the BII (British Institute of Innkeeping) Scotland annual awards.
The drinks giant forced the BII to change the decision made by judges at the last minute. The award was given to another company which refused to accept it as it had ‘BrewDog’ engraved on the trophy as the winner.
James Watt, co-founder at BrewDog, tweeted: “Might brew a beer to commemorate the Diageo Scandal But what should we call it? #AndTheWinnerIsNot.”
However, last week, Andrew Cowan, country director for Diageo GB, tweeted: “@BrewDogJames Hi, James. Andrew Cowan here. I run Diageo GB. As I said on the phone to you yesterday and again today, we are very sorry… AC
“@BrewDogJames …and we’re taking it v seriously. But please don’t witch-hunt one of our people because they made a mistake. AC.”
