London Mayor Boris Johnson pledges to help BII get 5,000 apprentices working in London

London Mayor Boris Johnson has pledged to help the BII get 5,000 apprentices working in the capital within a year.

Johnson is challenging the sector to get 5,000 apprentices working in the trade within 12 months, as part of a major new initiative that will see the mayor, his office and the local enterprise partnership put their full weight firmly behind the BII and its new Apprenticeship in Licensed Hospitality.

The full extent of the partnership will be revealed at the forthcoming National Licensed Hospitality Industry Apprenticeships Summit on 26 June at Sketchley Grange Hotel in Burbage, Leicestershire.

“BII firmly believes apprenticeships are the way forward for the licensed hospitality sector, providing career paths, professional qualifications and rewards to those in the pub sector. Winning the mayor’s support will give apprenticeships the attention they merit,” said Cathie Smith, director

of the BIIAB (the British Institute of Innkeeping Awarding Body).

“Apprenticeships are a key tool for the Government in raising skills levels in the UK. This Apprenticeship in Licensed Hospitality has been developed by our industry for our industry.  Apprenticeships offer a fantastic opportunity for people to gain the skills they need for the jobs of the future.”
