Tex Mex is ideal for pub menus

As our British taste buds continue their education in the greater flavours of the wider world, more exotic cuisines continue to be integrated into the pub sector.

In particular, Mexican food is proving popular with both pub-goers and operators, as demonstrated by the addition of Brewers Fayre’s latest theme night (see below).

It is not the first brand to jump on the Tex Mex bandwagon and it won’t be the last, but it does confirm that Mexican food is very much here to stay. It is also gaining traction in the restaurant world, with numerous burrito chains having been launched, the Thomasina Miers-owned chain Wahaca expanding across London, and in street food with concepts such as Luardos.

The popularity of Mexican food is good news for pubs as there are a lot of options — burritos, tacos, tostadas, taquitos, quesadillas and so on. Many dishes naturally work as hand-held snacks — perfect for upselling food during busy pub events or between service times. It can be a very low-calorie cuisine too, ticking that box for those who value health and taste.

For those not yet on the bandwagon, it might be something to discuss at the next team meeting.
