Animal Inns snapped up by Jeremy King and David Cappendell

Former Regent Inns executive and Momo Leisure co-owner Jeremy ‘Jez’ King has teamed up with entrepreneur David Cappendell to acquire the Norfolk-based Animal Inns business from owner Henry Watt for an undisclosed sum.

King told M&C Report that the new owners are going to spend up to 12 months “getting the basics right” across the four-strong group, which has a turnover of £3.5m, before looking at acquisition opportunities.

The deal for Animal was funded by King and Cappendell, with some additional funding from Barclays Bank.

Animal currently runs the Mad Moose, Wildebeest Arms and Mackintosh’s Canteen — all in Norwich — and the Hunny Bell in Hunworth, Norfolk. The group comprises one freehold, two free-of-tie commercial leases and a Wellington Pub Company unit. Former owner Watt is set to stay on with the business in a consultancy role.

King operates Momo Leisure with David Elphick. The company is currently involved in talks with around six late-night bar operators about rolling out Jongleurs comedy clubs into their outlets.
