Sky announces new discounts for pubs

Sky is to introduce deeper discounts for pubs serving food, as well as a new location-based discount, as it looks to encourage more pubs to show live sport. Commercial Sky subscriptions will also now be available on a rolling 30-day contract to give pubs more flexibility over their subscription.

Pubs serving food could now qualify for discounts of up to 30% and a similar reduction will apply to pubs in areas of the country with a lower population density.

Sky has previously offered extra discounts to food-led pubs. For the 2010/2011 season, the broadcaster offered a 3% discount for anyone whose food sales account for more than 30% of fair maintainable trade (FMT) — the discount increased to as high as 10% for anyone whose food sales are more than 60% of FMT.

This will now increase to a 10% discount for pubs whose food sales account for 30% FMT, a 20% discount will apply to pubs whose food sales account for between 31 and 60% of FMT, whilst pubs whose food sales account for over 60% of FMT will get a discount of 30%.

Iain Holden, managing director of Sky Business, said: ‘We are committed to giving our customers great value for money while helping them grow their businesses.

“Part of this journey is to create a fairer pricing structure which makes Sky more affordable to a greater number of customers ensuring they pay a price that better reflects the value Sky offers to their particular circumstances.

“The year ahead will be the best ever for live sport on Sky with more football, cricket and rugby than ever before, all in HD, and more stunning 3D on Europe’s leading 3D sports service.

“And, of course, Sky Sports becomes the new home of F1 from next season too, so there’s never been a better time to use live sport to drive business.”
