First all-woman team completes Everards' Gold Course

A team of seven female licensees has become the first ever all-woman team to complete Everards' prestigious Gold Course and create its own beer.

A team of seven female licensees have become the first ever all-woman team to complete Everards' prestigious Gold Course and create their own beer.

The Everards Gold Course is an advanced beer and cellar management training course available to licensees and staff. Those taking the course get the opportunity to design, brew and name a brand new ale for distribution across the Everards pub estate.

The all female team spent three days at Everards brewery in Leicestershire working on their Full Circle creation. A ruby red 5% ale, the beer has a rich fruit aroma with an underlying malty character.

Lisa Brotherhood, licensee at the Elephant and Castle pub in Thurlaston, Leicestershire, said: "History shows it was women that first brewed beer as a drink for their families as it was far more safer than drinking the water. In view of this we came up with Full Circle.

"Overall the course was absolutely fabulous. We had a great chance to get hands on with all the brewing stuff and get stuck in.

"There was no princesses, everybody got stuck into all the tasks such as digging out the mash tub and hosing down the cellar. It was a real team building project and so informative with regards to the brewing process."

The other six women to complete the course were Karen Watson of the Star and Garter, Wigston Magna; Tina Hutton of the Stamford Arms, Groby; Caroline Tunstall of The Railway Inn, Ratby; Jo Brown, licensee at The Chesterfield Arms; Natalie Farrington of the Tram Depot, Cambridge; and Everards Lab Manager Christine Gleadlow.
